Kilimanjaro Mountain Climb: Umbwe Route

Day 1 – Mandara
From the cluster of the buildings at the gate it is about four hours hike through the forest to reach Mandara Hut 2720m (4 hrs)

Day 2 – Horombo
Your second day on the mountain starts with a steep climb through the last swathe of the rain forest. Further on this day you will gain 1000m in altitude to reach Horombo Hut 3720m. 3720m (6 hrs)

Day 3- Acclimatisation Day
This is a free day but you may climb up to 4200m towards the Zebra Rocks then come back to Horombo Hut (if you wish)!

Day 4: A short and easy morning of gentle descend to reach Barranco Camp 3,950m- Overnight stay at Barranco Camp.(3hrs)

Day 5: A speed climb up the Barranco Wall is followed by an undulating trail on the South-Eastern flank of Kibo, a with superb view of the Southern  Ice Fields. Overnight stay at Karanga Camp 4100m (4hrs)

Day 6: A short but steep climb out of Karanga Valley Camp, following an easy path on compacted scree with wide views that gained altitude provide,  to unrelentingly reach Barafu Camp site 4600m (3hrs)

Day 7: We will start our final ascent to the summit by midnight slowly but steadily pace to Uhuru peak at 5,895m . Descent to Barafu Camp is surprisingly fast. After some refreshments at Barafu Camp, we continue to descend to reach our final campsite Mweka Hut 3,100m ( 11-15 hours walking)

Day 8: A sustained descent through lovely forest lush undergrowth takes us to the National Park gate at Mweka (1,750m), where our car will be ready to transfer us back to the lodge
